Design and set
The device is delivered in a box made of thick cardboard, which includes the following items:
- charging block;
- USB cable – Type-C;
- protective film already glued to the screen;
- protective glass;
- strap (you need it to wear the device on your wrist);
As you can see from the list, Ulefone does not change traditions and tries to make the package richer, which distinguishes the company’s smartphones from competitors’ devices. The supplied power supply supports Quick Charge and delivers up to 3 A.
Now a little about the design, because the Armor X8 has a good one. In general, the device is similar to most protected phones, the side panels are made of red metal, which looks unusual. There is also a variant with orange or strictly decorated silver edges. On the front panel there is a compact teardrop-shaped cutout for the front camera, above which the speaker is installed. There is a rather large side around the display and under it. Of course, it spoils the experience of watching movies or games, but at the same time it serves to protect the screen from mechanical damage.
To the left of the speaker are proximity and light sensors, and to the right there is an event indicator that will not allow you to miss an important notification. On the left side there is a tight slot for cards, as well as a programmable button, which can be set up to 3 actions. The connector itself is recommended to be removed with a paper clip or tool, since it will be difficult to do it with your hands. The tray is designed for two SIM cards or one SIM card and a micro SD drive. On the right side there are volume keys and device on / off buttons. Below is a responsive fingerprint scanner.
The bottom edge is occupied by a Type-C power connector, a rubber stopper. And in the upper part of the case there is a familiar 3.5 mm headphone jack, which is also covered with a flap (another reason to buy a protected phone).
The smartphone uses a 5.94-inch display made using IPS technology. The viewing angles are good, the image can be seen from any point. At the same time, the screen resolution is low – HD + (1440×720) with a density of 282 pixels per inch. When displaying a picture from white, the display brightness is 444 cd / m 2 . Brightness adjustment is performed smoothly, so you don’t have to set the slider to the maximum in case of ambient light. In the dark, looking at the screen is not entirely comfortable, but in the settings of the gadget you can turn on the night mode and turn on the dark theme to save battery.
Performance and sound
The budget processor Media Tek Helio P60, paired with 4 GB of RAM and a Power VRGE 8320 adapter, is responsible for the device’s performance. According to the test results, the device ran games at minimum and medium graphics settings. However, the same PUBG has been launched for a long time, so gamblers are unlikely to like this solution.
At the same time, the phone performed well in multitasking mode. The interface is smooth, the picture does not freeze when working from several applications at the same time.
It is not without reason that this model falls into the ratings of the most autonomous smartphones, because a 5580 mAh battery is installed inside it, the full charge of which will be enough for 2 days of active use. In video playback mode, the device can withstand more than 15 hours without being connected to the power supply, and in games the battery retains its charge for 7-8 hours. Whereas in standby mode the gadget will last up to 25 days without recharging.
With fast charging, the Armor 8 battery reaches a full charge in less than 2 hours.
Although this is a rugged smartphone, its cameras shoot quite well. On the back cover there is a block of three rear cameras: the main one with 16 megapixels, a 5 megapixel macro camera for shooting small objects in the vicinity, as well as a 2 megapixel depth sensor. There is autofocus and LED flash for night photos. The shooting quality of the Armor8 in normal light is decent. At the same time, during shooting at night, photographs are obtained with noise. There is support for video recording in Full HD-resolution at 30 frames per second. The front camera is represented by a standard 8-megapixel camera.
Advantages and disadvantages
The device has both advantages and disadvantages. First, about the advantages of the gadget:
- reliable case, resistant to mechanical damage and moisture penetration;
- affordable price;
- standard sizes, because of which the phone will not seem like a “shovel” and will fit in one hand;
- support for fast charging;
- fresh version of Android;
- powerful battery – its charge is enough for 2 days of work.
Now let’s move on to the disadvantages of the device:
- some buttons are loose;
- combined slot for an additional card or microSD-drive;
- quality of pictures at night;
- Full HD video recording only at 30 frames per second.
This was a review on the ArmorX8 smartphone from Aliexpress, which will delight users with a protected case. It also features a responsive fingerprint reader and can be used to create memorable photos with the triple rear camera.
